Intellectual disability

Intellectual disability is a limitation in mental ability

that affects a person’s skills in areas such as learning, thinking, communication, and problem-solving. This condition typically appears before the age of 18 and can vary in severity from mild to severe. Individuals with intellectual disabilities may face challenges in academic performance, social interaction, and daily independence. At Tabitha Ministry, we believe that every person with an intellectual disability, regardless of their abilities, has value and dignity. They deserve to be treated with respect and given opportunities to live a meaningful and participatory life.

Is a vital area for mothers of children with intellectual disabilities, focusing on teaching children to eat independently, use the bathroom on their own, and choose and wear clothes without assistance. Developing these skills promotes independence and confidence in daily life.

About the Ministry

All of these areas

include many items that we teach inside classrooms. We prepare classrooms with chairs, tables, and an educational cabinet. There is also a resource room equipped and dedicated to individuals with intellectual disabilities, under the supervision of a specialized consultant in intellectual disabilities.

Additionally, Tabitha Ministry offers another component: a workshop for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Tabitha Ministry organizes a simple and accessible workshop for these individuals. The workshop serves as a means to help them acquire life and professional skills, while also giving them a sense of achievement and value. This experience helps them develop their abilities, boosts their self-confidence, and makes them feel like active and contributing members of society.

Education

Tabitha Ministry places education at the heart of its mission, believing that knowledge is the key to real change and growth for children. The ministry supports children in their educational journey through practical programs designed to improve their academic performance and develop their mental and skill capacities. The ministry provides school bags and stationery for each child at the beginning of the school year, encouraging them to continue their education while feeling supported and cared for. It organizes remedial classes and reading lessons aimed at raising academic achievement, especially in core subjects such as Arabic, mathematics, and reading. Interactive teaching methods are used to foster a love for learning and encourage children to think creatively and collaborate with others. Children are followed up individually to identify learning difficulties and address them in cooperation with their families and teachers. Through this comprehensive educational support, Tabitha Ministry seeks to open new horizons for children and empower them to build a brighter future.

Medical Care

The ministry works to provide comprehensive medical care aimed at the early detection of health issues and their careful follow-up. Medical care activities include conducting regular medical check-ups and tests for children to ensure their overall health, organizing vision screening campaigns to check eyesight and address any problems early, and providing necessary medications and treatments for children in need. The ministry also contributes to the costs of surgeries for cases requiring specialized medical intervention and raises health awareness among mothers and children regarding proper nutrition, personal hygiene, and prevention of common diseases. Through this approach, Tabitha Ministry aims to provide integrated care that protects the child’s body, mind, and spirit in a safe and nurturing environment.

Birthday and Children’s Day Celebrations

Tabitha Ministry is keen to support the psychological and recreational aspects of children, based on the belief that joy is an essential part of a child’s healthy development. Therefore, the ministry organizes special celebrations throughout the year for children’s birthdays and Children’s Day, providing moments of happiness and a sense of value and belonging. These celebrations include organizing birthday parties that bring children together in an atmosphere of joy and participation, giving symbolic gifts and special cakes for each child to celebrate their birthday, and holding an annual Children’s Day celebration on November 20th, featuring artistic performances, games, and recreational activities that foster a spirit of community and love among the children. Through these loving gatherings, Tabitha Ministry seeks to ensure that every child feels loved, accepted, and has a special place in the hearts of both the ministry and the community.

Recreational Trips

Tabitha Ministry organizes recreational trips for individuals with intellectual disabilities as part of psychological and social support. These trips provide an opportunity for participants to integrate, enjoy themselves, and break the daily routine. During these outings, the children show joy and excitement, as these activities enhance their sense of happiness and belonging.

Family Support

In the family domain, Tabitha Ministry provides support through a specialized consultant for intellectual disabilities, aiming to empower mothers and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively care for and interact with their children. Training covers a variety of topics, including understanding the nature of intellectual disabilities, managing challenging behaviors, addressing issues related to puberty, knowing their rights and responsibilities in society, and understanding the family’s role in developing the child’s social skills and independence. The ministry believes that supporting the family is the foundation for the success of any intervention or program. Therefore, it ensures that mothers are active partners in their children’s journey toward a better life.

Psychological and Spiritual Support

As part of its focus on the psychological and spiritual support of mothers caring for children with intellectual disabilities, Tabitha Ministry introduced the idea of organizing spiritual days. These are special gatherings held away from daily responsibilities, where mothers are asked to attend without their children to give them a real opportunity to rest and rejuvenate. The objectives of these days include providing time for quiet, prayer, and reflection; renewing psychological and spiritual strength after the pressures of daily life; fostering a sense of hope amid challenges; sharing experiences and mutual support among mothers; and creating a space where mothers feel heard, valued, and cared for.
